about

Side one of the EP comprises three separate tracks that all segway into each other and so are presented here as one long track. Recorded in 1979 on a two track Revox in Deptford with additional mixing at Goldsmiths College Electronic Music Studio in New Cross.

The backing on Cash Wash was made by cutting a well known punk record with a scalpel to form a lock groove. Eat Good Beans features another scalpel track this time fed through a speaker covered with a biscuit tin lid. Make Customers Matter employs a scalpel track from a Krautrock composer. The voice on the track is that of a senior executive of WHSmith newsagents and is taken from a staff training cassette found whilst working in a branch of the store in the late 1970s.

lyrics

Cash Wash
cash wash, cash wash, cash wash.

Eat Good Beans
Eat Good Beans with your meat
I said eat good beans with your meat
It'll make you skin go brown

Eat Good Beans with your meat
I said eat good beans with your meat
It'll makes your breasts grow round

Eat Good Beans with your meat
I said eat good beans with your meat
The fruit seller wears a felt hat
His wife sits at home in the council flat
He parks the car by the porch
He's cooked her more time than he's cooked the pork
I said eat good beans with your meat

Eat Good Beans with your meat
I said eat good beans with your meat
Eat Good Beans with your meat
